Gas Station Weed In The News

Discussion with Oxford Police Chief Jeff McCutchen about how Oxford is cracking down on the sales of illegal gas station weed.

These products show the need to educate people about distinguishing medical cannabis from unregulated alternatives. 

One sample failed for eight of the pesticides listed by the Department of Health, and had this been a medical marijuana sample, it would have failed at 20 times the allowed level of one of those pesticides.

Synthetic marijuana packaging does not show which drugs are in it or the effects. The active ingredients are effectively random and there is no way to know how many drugs are there.

Colorful containers containing delta-8, a form of the substance THC, are sold in gas stations and shops across the country, and teens are buying them. 

Of the 3,572 calls received between January and May, 15 resulted in death. 

A Health Alert noted over 60 Delta-8 individual exposures reported to poison control centers, including hospitalizations, hallucinations, and coma. 

A lack of restrictions means that delta 8 THC can be packaged and marketed in ways that appeal specifically to youth.
